Lab Supervisor

Triad Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Lab Supervisor to coordinate and lead all lab testing for our Ashburn, VA and Winchester, VA offices.

Company vehicle provided for travel to and from the office and/or job site

DUTIES

Responsibilities Include:

• Accreditation of both the Ashburn and Winchester labs
• Supervise, coordinate, and train laboratory construction materials testing technician staff
• Perform technical review of all laboratory results, data and reports
• Monitor project production and schedules to ensure projects are completed by scheduled deadline
• Maintain effective communication with department managers and their staff to provide appropriate services in a timely fashion
• Follow up on issues with staff and/or department managers to resolve problems and concerns
• Establish and maintain quality and accuracy standards within the department
• Provide staff with critical or expert technical advice as necessary
• Determine labor, resource, and financial needs of the laboratory
• Manage all purchasing requests
• Direct maintenance and updating of department equipment, including equipment calibration
• Develop fees and scope for projects
• Assist Practice Leader with budgeting for the department and oversees expenditures of department
• Evaluate performance of departmental personnel and recommend salary adjustments
• Monitor the skills, licensing, and certification of department employees 
• Implement training programs as needed
• Authorize overtime, vacations and other indirect activities of the department staff
• Monitor billable hours and revenue per FTE 
• Evaluate new technology and products for use on projects
• Participate in Business Development
• Strive for department profitability

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science field
• Experience or other factors may be considered in lieu of education

Experience

• Eight (8) years of progressive experience, including providing the appropriate services and the management of personnel

Certifications

• WACEL certifications for soils, concrete, foundation, concrete lab and soils lab required
• VDOT preferred

Additional Requirements

• Must possess a valid driver's license
• Must have the ability to read, write and perform basic math, 
• Must be comfortable communicating with the public and working with computers
• Must be available to work in all types of indoor and outdoor environments

The employee may occasionally be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry field equipment weighing up to 60 pounds. Work may routinely require the employee to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Work is performed under all weather conditions, often on construction sites or in difficult terrain, and sometimes involves extensive standing and walking.
